If the trailer I am making was to promote a real film, there are certain places I would hope for it to be shown in order for the film to be successful.
Before the start of a film in the cinema, trailers are shown. People who are in the cinema at that time obviously do enjoy going to the cinema, and may be looking for an appealing film to go and see next. If my trailer was shown before a film of the same genre, with a similar target audience, it would attract the correct audience.
Similarly, if the trailer is advertised before a program on television with a similar audience, it would again be advertised to it's correct target audience, and be successful in capturing the audience.
Finally, the internet is such a growing, significant aspect of marketing and promoting films in modern day society. There are many advantages of using the internet, including the use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and also video sharing sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.
Adverts of all sorts including film trailers are suggested to Facebook users. Facebook stores pages a person has previously 'liked', and suggests things of the same genre or similar type to the things they have 'liked'. For example, if a person 'likes' a horror film, then a similar horror film may be suggested to them. This makes Facebook a good place to show the trailer as it will be suggested to people who like the same kind of film. Which effectively means it will be advertised to it's correct target audience.
Both Twitter and Facebook are highly popular amongst the younger generation. The target audience for our Trailer is 15-25 year olds. This means that social networking sites would be a good place to put our trailer as it would capture the correct age group. They're both globally used and things are easily shared and spread, meaning cheap, effective advertising.
According to the Youtube website, it is used by over one billion people globally every month. People from all ages, genders and social classes use this video sharing site. This means that once our trailer is put on to YouTube it can be seen by a vast amount of people, therefore is again, a cheap and efficient way to advertise and promote the film.
